Backup, Restore, Compact and Repair Utility.
This utility provides several functions that are necessary for the maintenance of important information stored on a database in the computer.

The Backup utility allows the user to make a copy of the data files from the WSIB System Navigator. The default is to store the copy onto a floppy disk in case of hardware problems. The default can be overridden so that a copy could also be made on the hard drive of the computer. This is useful for network users who wish to store the copy on a server.

The Restore Utility allows the user to replace the data files of the System Navigator with a previously created copy. This is helpful in a situation where there has been a hardware problem that has wiped out the hard drive. Restoring the data greatly reduces the amount of information that would have been lost.

The Repair and Compact Utility does just what its name implies. In the course of normal use a database will become filled with miscellaneous information that may refer to files that have been deleted or moved due to changes in some of the records. The Repair and Compact Utility will go through the database and remove any unwanted or unneeded overhead and will pack these files into what is known as contiguous space. The effect of this operation is to make the data file smaller and more efficient. The result to the user will be a smaller data file and a possible improvement in operating speed.

The system will read the data files and look for any information it has saved that it no longer needs. This is not the same as information that the user has entered. This is information that the computer has generated for internal maintenance of the database. No information entered by the user is lost or affected by this process.

This utility is important for the care and maintenance of the system and should be utilized on a scheduled basis.

The Repair and Compact Utility will be executed every time the user performs a back up of the data files. Network users who would not ordinarily perform a backup should run the Repair and Compact Utility at regular intervals.

Beyond the BackUp function, period use of the Repair Only Utility ensures the integrity of the Data Files by forcing a system clean up of these files.
